Age of Consent Lookup
Two ages, one country. The general age of consent (AOC) is the legal minimum for consensual sex; the sex-work minimum is the legal age for commercial transactions where sex work is legal at all. They are not the same. Pick a country to see both.

- The AOC is when adults can legally have sex with each other.
- The sex-work minimum is the lowest age at which someone can legally sell sex (where sex work is legal at all). It is almost always 18 or higher even where the AOC is lower.
- Many countries impose extraterritorial child-sex-tourism laws — you can be prosecuted at home for an offence committed abroad. The UN-recommended floor is 18.
- The default ethical and operational floor for everything on this site is 18+, regardless of what local AOC permits.

Last verified April 2026. Cross-checked against national criminal codes and the Council of Europe’s Lanzarote Convention reports. Laws and enforcement change — verify current status before any travel decision. The UN-recommended minimum for any commercial sexual transaction is 18, and most home-country extraterritorial laws apply that floor regardless of local AOC.
