Massachusetts General Laws c.272 §53A criminalizes solicitation. First offence: misdemeanour; second offence: enhanced. Massachusetts does NOT require sex-offender registration for solicitation. Reform legislation (decriminalization or Nordic Model) has been debated; nothing has passed as of 2026.

Cross-border dynamics
- New Hampshire: Solicitation also criminal in NH (RSA 645:2). Cross-border doesn't change legality.
- Rhode Island: Indoor prostitution was legal in RI 1980-2009 (legislative loophole); this is the storied "Providence underground" period. Now criminal under RIGL §11-34.1.
Massage-parlour ecosystem
Greater Boston has substantial Asian-massage-parlour activity; enforcement waves are periodic. Quincy, Brighton, Allston are common locations.
Reform politics
Massachusetts has had decriminalization legislation introduced in multiple sessions since 2019; nothing has passed. The debate is ongoing in the State House. As of 2026 the law remains as in c.272.
