The Sri Lankan rupee (LKR) has been volatile since the 2022 crisis, so quoted prices drift — check rates on arrival. Cards are accepted in Colombo hotels, supermarkets and better restaurants; everything else is cash, including tuk-tuks, spas and guesthouses outside the capital. ATMs are widespread but per-withdrawal caps vary by bank, so plan multiple withdrawals for larger sums. A 10% service charge appears on most restaurant bills; small cash tips on top are customary, and drivers and hotel staff expect modest tips.
