Travel and health insurance is effectively required — a health-insurance policy is bundled into the tourist e-visa — and comprehensive cover is strongly advised. Private hospitals in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province are of a high standard but expensive without cover, so ensure your policy includes emergency treatment and medical repatriation. Note that seeking treatment for injuries arising from a criminalised activity can create legal exposure in itself; factor that reality in, and prioritise consular contact where legal and health concerns overlap.
