Malaysia — Currency & Money

Currency is the Malaysian ringgit (MYR). Cards are widely accepted in KL, Penang and Johor Bahru hotels, malls and mid-range restaurants; hawker stalls, taxis and smaller bars remain cash-first. ATMs (Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank) dispense ringgit but typically charge MYR 10–12 per foreign-card withdrawal on top of your home bank's fee.

Tipping is not customary — most sit-down venues add a 10% service charge and 6% SST to the bill. Grab and food-delivery drivers appreciate rounding up. Money-changers in Bukit Bintang and KLCC generally beat airport and hotel rates; keep receipts for larger conversions.
