Standard travel insurance (World Nomads, SafetyWing, Allianz) is advisable; EU/UK visitors with an EHIC/GHIC card get access to public healthcare on equal terms with Italians for emergencies. Private clinics are widely available and English-speaking doctors common in Rome, Milan and Florence.

For sexual health, public STI screening is available through regional Malattie Sessualmente Trasmissibili (MST) clinics at major hospitals — free or low-cost, often anonymous. In Rome the San Gallicano Institute and Spallanzani hospital run walk-in STI services; Milan has clinics at Ospedale Sacco. Emergency contraception is available OTC at pharmacies without prescription. PEP is available at hospital emergency departments within 72 hours of exposure.
