Quito — La Mariscal around Plaza Foch is the traditional foreigner nightlife quarter (bars, clubs, hostels), quieter than pre-pandemic and with real robbery risk on empty side streets after midnight; take app cabs door to door. Sex work is legal and health-regulated for adults in Ecuador, and licensed venues ('centros de tolerancia') sit mostly in non-tourist districts rather than the bar zone; apartment-based independent providers advertise online. Guayaquil — nightlife clusters in Urdesa and the Zona Rosa near the Malecón, but the city has had serious gang violence since 2022 and periodic states of emergency; treat any after-dark movement as app-cab-only and skip street-level scenes entirely. Cuenca — calmer, expat-oriented bar scene with a small discreet market. National security has deteriorated since 2023; check current state-of-emergency decrees on arrival.
