Canada — Currency & Money

Currency is the Canadian dollar (CAD). Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) accepted almost everywhere including corner stores; tap payments universal. ATMs at major banks (RBC, TD, Scotiabank, CIBC, BMO) charge CAD 2–3 for non-customers; avoid white-label "Cash Stop" ATMs in bars, which stack CAD 5–8 fees plus poor FX. Notify your bank before travel to avoid holds.

Tipping is expected: 15–20% at restaurants, CAD 1–2 per drink at bars, 15% for taxis, CAD 2–5 per bag for hotel porters. Sales tax (GST/HST/PST) of 5–15% is added at checkout, not included on menu prices.
