Bucharest is the value-tier Eastern European capital
Despite a technically-criminal legal framework, Romania treats sex work as an administrative offence (fine RON 500–3,000 for the worker; buyers not prosecuted). The result: an active visible scene in Bucharest concentrated in Old Town and Floreasca. Pricing roughly 40–50% below Western European peers. Old Town is the tourist-and-scam centre; Floreasca and Aviatorilor have the premium independents.
Districts
- Old Town (Centrul Vechi) — central nightlife + strip-club cluster. Tourist concentration; scam risk.
- Calea Victoriei & Aviatorilor — upscale corridor; premium hotels and independents.
- Floreasca / Sector 1 north — modern business / residential; premium apartments.
- Pipera — IT-corporate district; outcall scenes.
- Centru / Universitate — central business; mid-tier.
- Avoid: Ferentari; parts of Rahova; specific train-station-adjacent areas at night.
Named venues
- Old Town strip clubs — Pussy Club, Eden, Tiffany, Bamboo. Mix of legitimate strip and scam-zone venues. Verify pricing before any consumption.
- Premium independents on Skokka.ro and international platforms; Floreasca/Aviatorilor apartments.
- Some mid-tier private clubs in central districts.
Pricing reality
- Mid-tier independent — RON 500–1,000 (~USD 110–220) per hour.
- Premium / GFE — RON 1,500–3,000 (~USD 330–660) per hour.
- Strip-club + escalation — RON 1,000–3,000 + drinks markup.
- Overnight premium — RON 3,000–8,000.
Scam patterns
- Old Town strip-club bill inflation — "lady drink" scams; surprise €500–2,000 bills; cards skimmed. Worst pattern in any Eastern European capital. Confirm prices in writing; never use cards.
- Fake-taxi airport scams — drivers diverting via ATM. Use Bolt exclusively.
- Stolen-photo escort ads on Skokka.
- Counterfeit large bills — verify RON 200 / 500 notes.
- Pickpocketing in Old Town and around tourist sites.
Hotels
Most central Bucharest hotels are guest-friendly. The Marriott, Athenee Palace Hilton, JW Marriott Bucharest are reliable. Boutique hotels in Old Town and Floreasca are explicitly guest-permissive. Avoid budget hotels near Gara de Nord at night.
Transit, cash, language
- Bucharest Metro runs 05:00–23:00.
- Bolt and Free Now (Yango) both work; never street-hailed taxis.
- OTP airport to Centro: Bus 783 RON 7 (45 min); train RON 5; Bolt RON 50–80.
- Cards widely accepted; cash for adult services.
- English strong in tourism / hospitality / premium tier.
Health
EU EHIC/UK GHIC for emergency. Private clinics for STI testing — RON 200–600. Regina Maria and MedLife are the major networks. PrEP available through private clinics; growing NGO infrastructure.
