With respect, my experience was more mixed. Maybe timing matters.

Portugal trip report — 7 days
Arrived and got settled quickly. Taxi from airport was easy. Hotel was clean and central.
Days 1-2: Explored, got the lay of the land. Found the local spots quickly.
Days 3-10: Hit my stride. Found my rhythm. The nightlife district area was the sweet spot.
Prices: $100-200 for premium. Pay asking price — it's fair.
Tips: Learn basic local phrases.
Return? Absolutely — already planning next trip.
