Soi Cowboy emerged in the 1970s adjacent to Sukhumvit. The street's name comes from "T.G. Cowboy" Edwards, a US ex-soldier who opened the first bar on the street post-Vietnam-War. The street became known among American visitors and grew organically into a concentrated bar district.
