• Negombo beach after 10 PM — The beach itself becomes deserted and poorly lit. Muggings and bag-snatching occur. Keep encounters in hotel rooms or guesthouses, not on the beach
• Colombo Fort area at night — The commercial zone around the Fort railway station empties after business hours. Walking alone here late at night is inadvisable
• Pettah market area — Colombo's chaotic market district is fine during the day but becomes a pickpocketing and petty-crime zone at night. Not relevant for the adult scene but worth noting for general safety
• Hikkaduwa main road — The A2 highway that runs through Hikkaduwa has no sidewalks in many sections. Walking along this road at night after drinking is genuinely dangerous due to traffic. Use a tuk-tuk even for short distances along the main road
• Isolated guesthouses — Budget guesthouses in rural settings along the coast can leave you isolated without recourse if a situation goes wrong. For initial encounters, prefer establishments in populated areas with other guests and staff present
