Planning my first trip to Guatemala. Read through the older threads but wanted to check if info is still current.

My main questions:
1. Best area to stay for easy access to the scene?
2. Realistic daily budget including accommodation?
3. Any areas to avoid?
4. How is the quality compared to Czech Republic?
5. Any apps to use before arriving?

Coming from Australia with experience in a few different countries but first time in Guatemala.

Any recent reports or recommendations appreciated. Thanks!

Word of caution — do not carry too much cash. Other than that, great destination.

Good info. Going during the week is much better — less crowded and better prices.

Been going for years. Scene has shifted a bit but still good.

First time was good but could have been better. Second time was so much more efficient. Experience makes all the difference.

What was your total spend roughly? Trying to budget for mine.

Spot on with the prices. Matches what I paid recently.

How long did it take to feel comfortable and find the good spots?
