Safety update for Central Mexico based on recent experience and community reports:

General Safety Level: Generally safe for tourists in main areas.

Common Risks:
- Street touts steering you to overpriced venues
- Fake police demanding bribes — ask for badge number
- Motorcycle taxi accidents — wear a helmet

Areas to Avoid:
Tourist areas are generally safe but stay alert.

Police Situation:
Police checkpoints are common — carry ID.

Stay safe out there.

Word of caution — be careful with street touts. Other than that, great destination.

Adding my experience: scene has bounced back since pre-COVID. Biggest change: some old spots closed.

Good info. Going during the week is much better — less crowded and better prices.

I was there in January and prices were slightly higher. Spent about $80/day all-in.

My tip: midweek is much better.

Also recommend downloading Google Translate before you go. Essential.
