Planning my first trip to Cambodia in the next few months. I've read through a lot of the older threads but wanted to check if the info is still current.
My main questions:
- Best area to stay for easy access to the scene?
- Realistic daily budget?
- Any areas to avoid?
- How welcoming are the locals to foreign visitors?
I'm coming from the UK and have experience in Latin America but this would be my first time in Cambodia.
Thanks for any help!

Agreed on all points. Make sure to book hotels in advance.

How long did it take to feel comfortable and find the good spots?

Can confirm. Was there 2 weeks ago and everything checks out.

Adding my experience from 3 weeks ago.
The scene has stayed the same since pre-COVID. Biggest change: prices up 20%.

I was there in January and prices were slightly higher.
Spent about $112/day all-in. Quality was good.
My tip: go early evening for best selection.

This matches my experience. Cambodia is underrated.

I'd also recommend downloading Grab before you go. Essential.

Quick question — how was the hotel security?

How does it compare to the Philippines?

I'd rate it similarly. Solid 8/10 destination.
