Back from Vietnam. Spent 4 days, here's the breakdown:
Accommodation: Guesthouse near the action. $33/night.
Scene: Not as busy as I hoped but still good.
Prices: Fair for the quality.
Highlights: The nightlife area was incredible.
Overall: 9/10 — would highly recommend.
Ask me anything.

Good info. I'd add that going during the week is much better — less crowded, better prices.

How long did it take to feel comfortable and find the good spots?

I'd also recommend downloading Maps.me before you go. Essential.
